Qualifications to Become a Peer Mentor
Peer Mentors are current UTA students who are actively engaged on campus and eager to support others. To be considered, students should:
- Be an upperclassman – juniors and seniors are preferred; sophomores may be considered by exception.
- Maintain good academic standing – with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Hold an active role on campus – such as on-campus employment, leadership in a student organization, or participation in internships/experiential learning.
- Commit to milestone activities – guiding mentees through Coffee on Campus, club/organization involvement, career events, LinkedIn/resume support, and reflection.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills – being approachable, encouraging, and responsive.
- Show leadership potential – willing to share experiences, ask questions, and help others grow.
- Be a positive representative of UTA – modeling professionalism, respect, and Maverick spirit.
- Engage in growth opportunities – Peer Mentors also have access to Career Mentors (alumni, employers, faculty/staff) for their own professional development.
