What is Expected of Peer Mentors?

We’ve designed the peer mentoring program to be flexible and manageable for students. We know your schedule is full with classes, work, and campus involvement. You and your mentee have control over how your partnership will look and can decide together how to make the relationship meaningful.

A Few Key Expectations

  • Set expectations early about when and how you will connect with your mentee. Use the Mentorship Agreement to guide this conversation.
  • Follow the milestone pathway together. Milestones (like Coffee on Campus, attending a club meeting, or working on a resume/LinkedIn profile) help structure your meetings and ensure steady progress throughout the semester.
  • Approach your mentee with respect, encouragement, and an open mind.
  • Respond to your mentee’s communications in a timely manner.
  • Be a good listener and ask open-ended questions to help your mentee think through their goals and next steps.
  • Share feedback and suggestions with mavsedge@uta.edu so we can continue improving the program.
  • Spread the word! Tell your classmates and campus network about your experience—peer mentors play a key role in helping the program grow.
