How Does it Work?

MavMentors runs on an online matching platform. Mentors and mentees each complete a short profile that includes major, industry, interests, and background. Based on this profile, mentees can request career mentors (alumni, employers, or faculty/staff) or connect with a peer mentor. Students may also serve as peer mentors and be matched with a peer mentee. Once a mentor accepts a request, the pair connects through the platform to begin working together.

At the start of the relationship, mentors and mentees will agree on the timeline, communication plan, and objectives for their work together. The program is designed to be flexible for busy students, alumni, and employers, with each pair deciding what works best for their meetings, whether on campus, virtually, or a mix of both.

Milestones to Guide Your Experience

To provide structure, the program offers a set of milestones tailored for both career mentoring and peer mentoring. These milestones help guide the relationship by suggesting key activities and checkpoints, while still leaving flexibility for pairs to adapt them to their needs. More information about milestones is provided in the Resouces & Documents section.
