What is Expected of Mentors?

We purposefully have designed this program to be flexible for alumni and employers. We know that you are busy and have many personal and professional commitments. You and your mentee have complete control over your mentoring partnership and can decide how you want the relationship to work.

We do have a few minimal expectations:

1. Set your expectations right away about when and how you will connect with your mentee. Check out the Mentorship Agreement to help guide that conversation.

2. Approach your mentee with respect, professionalism, and an open mind.

3. Respond to communications from your mentee in a timely manner.

4. Listen and ask open-ended questions, which will assist your mentee in thinking about their future.

5. Send your feedback and suggestions for improvement periodically to careers@uta.edu . As this is a new and developing program, we’d greatly appreciate your honest feedback.

6. Tell your classmates and members of your UTA Maverick Network about your experiences! As a growing program, we rely on word of mouth referrals to promote the program.

Mentor talking

Mentoring a student is a great way to give back to UTA. Sharing your advice and experience can help mentees understand working in a professional environment, navigate the job search process, and learn important steps to take in their own career journey.
